All
eight of The Waters communities featured Bob’s Macaroni and Cheese as a
side dish for this month’s Heirloom meal. Bob Wilkins lives at The
Colony, a Waters Community, in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

Bob
has shared many stories with his neighbors at The Colony. Bob Wilkins
was a senior in high school in 1942. “Our destiny upon graduation was
either enlistment or draft into the Armed Forces, compulsory at age 18,”
said Bob. But before becoming infantry replacements in WWII, Bob took a
Vocational Cooking class. Bob said, “My friend Howard and I took the
course as a diversion.” It is where he acquired the recipe for macaroni
and cheese.
Bob's Macaroni and Cheese
Serves 4-6
Ingredients
1-1/4 cups scalded milk
3/4 cup soft bread crumbs
3 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups cooked macaroni
1/2 teaspoon chopped onions
1/4 pound cheese, grated
2 eggs, well beaten
Directions
Preheat
oven to 375 degrees F. Pour milk over crumbs and butter. Add other
ingredients in order given. Mix thoroughly. Place in greased casserole
dish that has been set in a pan of hot water. Bake until set, about 40
minutes.
